Who Made Revolution in Varicose Veins Treatment in India and Why?

Dr Urals·06 Oct 2026·3 min

Varicose veins treatment in India has seen 2 big revolutions.

1st Revolution: 2010-2015 - Laser Revolution by Modern Surgery

Before 2010, varicose veins meant big open surgery - cut leg from top to bottom, 15 days bed rest, big scar. Many patients avoided treatment due to fear.

Then Laser (EVLT) and Glue treatment came to India. Top vascular surgeons in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore started laser.

Why it was a revolution?

• No big cut - only needle hole

• No 15 days bed rest - walk same day

• Less pain than open surgery

So lakhs of patients who were scared of open surgery came forward for laser. This was 1st revolution - from open surgery to laser.

But after 10 years, doctors saw 2 problems: 30-40% recurrence and no solution for black hard skin and active non-healing ulcer. Laser could close a vein, but could not soften hard skin and heal ulcer from root. Surgery was refused when ulcer was active.

That is where 2nd revolution started.

2nd Revolution: 2015-Now - Ayurveda Revolution for Root Cause Healing

This revolution was not made by big corporate hospitals, but by exclusive Ayurveda doctors who worked only on varicose veins for 20+ years.

In Karnataka, one such name is Dr. M.V. Ural, BAMS- practicing exclusively for varicose veins and venous ulcer since 1999 from Sringeri and Malleshwaram, Bengaluru.

Why Dr. Ural and similar Ayurveda experts created revolution?

1. They changed the concept: Modern science says "Varicose is valve problem - close faulty vein". Ayurveda revolution says "Varicose is Rakta Dushti - blood impurity problem. Purify blood, strengthen vein wall, prevent recurrence."

2. They gave solution for Stage 3 & 4 where laser fails: Laser has no medicine for black, wood-like hard skin (Lipodermatosclerosis) and non-healing ulcer. Dr. Ural's 26 years protocol - Stop internal leakage + Soften hard base + Grow new skin (Ropana) - heals legs which were declared "lifelong dressing case" by many hospitals. This gave hope to thousands.

3. They made treatment possible for elderly without surgery: 60+ patients with diabetes, BP, heart disease are high risk for anesthesia. Laser/surgery is refused. Ayurveda revolution gave them walking treatment - No Cut, No Laser, No Anesthesia, No Admission. OP basis treatment. This was biggest relief for senior citizens.

4. They made treatment affordable: Laser costs Rs. 80,000 to 1,50,000 with recurrence risk. Ayurveda treatment is OP based, affordable and focuses on whole leg healing - not just closing one vein.

Why was this revolution needed in India?

Because India is a country where people stand long - farmers, teachers, traffic police, factory workers, hotel staff. They cannot take 15 days bed rest. They need walking treatment. They need treatment that heals black skin and ulcer, not just removes vein.

As Dr. M.V. Ural says: "1st revolution taught India how to close a vein without big cut. 2nd Ayurveda revolution is teaching India how to heal the whole leg without surgery and prevent recurrence. Both are needed, but for Stage 3 black skin and Stage 4 ulcer, Ayurveda is essential."

Conclusion:

Laser revolution was made by modern vascular surgeons for Stage 2 bulging veins. Ayurveda revolution is made by exclusive Ayurveda doctors like Dr. M.V. Ural for Stage 3 black hard skin and Stage 4 non-healing ulcer where modern science has limited options.

The future in India is integrated approach - Early diagnosis by Doppler + Right patient for right treatment.
